People to Avoid to Grow - Procrastinators (15 of 15)
The Science of Procrastination: Did you know that the people you surround yourself with can make or break your success? Science says it’s true—so, who’s in your circle?
Here’s the thing: procrastination isn’t just a personal habit—it’s contagious. A study from the University of California (2014) found that behaviors like procrastination can spread through social networks, just like a virus. If you’re constantly around people who delay, you’re more likely to pick up the same habit.
And it doesn’t stop there. Research from Harvard Business School (2018) shows that your environment directly impacts your productivity and motivation. Think of it like this: your circle is like the crew of a rowing boat. If everyone is rowing in sync, you’ll glide smoothly toward your goals. But if some people stop rowing—or worse, row in the opposite direction—you’ll struggle to move forward, no matter how hard you try.
That’s why it’s so important to be intentional about the people you let into your life. It’s not about judging or cutting people off—it’s about protecting your growth.
So, how can you create an environment that fuels your success? Here are three simple steps:
Audit your circle. Take a moment to reflect: are the people around you lifting you up or holding you back?
Set boundaries. If someone’s procrastination is affecting you, limit the time you spend with them—or focus on activities that don’t involve shared responsibilities.
Find your 'growth tribe.' Surround yourself with people who inspire action, discipline, and ambition. Think of them as the wind beneath your wings, helping you soar higher.
Now, I want to hear from you: who’s one person in your life that inspires you to be better? Tag them in the comments and let them know they’re part of your growth tribe!
